MAN Energy Solutions has won the contract to supply the main propulsion engines for two new 41m patrol vessels for the Royal Thai Navy. Each vessel will be powered by 2 × MAN 16V175D-MM, IMO Tier II engines, each rated at 2,960 kWm at 1,900 rpm. Marsun Shipyard in Thailand will construct the newbuildings with delivery scheduled for August 2020. The Royal Thai Navy already operates MAN Energy Solutions engines on its Krabi-class Offshore Patrol Vessels; a second such vessel was commissioned last September.

French marine offshore and performance management company Opsealog proudly announces its 2019 Environmental Impact results, having achieved an impressive 10% reduction in Gas Emissions related to Marine Offshore Operations in partnership with its E&P clients. Monitoring over 400 vessels worldwide, the company aims to reduce even more the environmental impacts at sea in 2020 by promoting good practices and assuring procedure compliance.

Iridium Communications Inc. announced that on December 19, 2019 a Letter of Compliance was signed by the International Mobile Satellite Organization (IMSO), stating it has positively verified the operational and technical requirements as requested by the Maritime Safety Committee (MSC) of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) for Iridium to provide Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) service.

KONGSBERG Group (KONGSBERG) is going to install and test autonomous technology on two vessels in different operational environments. This project is receiving funding of almost NOK 200 million (Euro 20.1 million) – one of the largest grants ever given to Norwegian players – from Horizon 2020, an EU research program. KONGSBERG is publicly announced the news of this project on Tuesday, January 21,2020.

Following calls for great vessel versatility offshore Damen has developed a new concept vessel – the Offshore Support Vessel (OSV) 9020. The vessel features a stable platform with lots of accommodation, good station-keeping capability, low carbon emissions and lots of flexibility to add mission-specific tools.

The ShipFC project is being run by a consortium of 14 European companies and institutions, co-ordinated by the Norwegian cluster organization NCE Maritime CleanTech, and has been awarded backing from the EU’s Research and Innovation program Horizon 2020 under its Fuel Cells and Hydrogen Joint Undertaking (FCH JU).

On 14th January, Gentium and Damen Shipyards Group signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Industry of Bangladesh in Dhaka. Also present at the signing ceremony were representatives of the Netherlands Embassy in Bangladesh, who are supporting Gentium-Damen in their undertaking.
