The new Swedish oceangoing research vessel R/V Svea is fully equipped with Scantrol control systems for ¬¬¬¬the electrical Ibercisa trawl and research winches onboard. More than 30 research vessels worldwide are depoyed with Scantrol systems and an increasing number of the new vessels choose to install a combination of Scantrol iSYM Autotrawl and Scantrol Active Heave Compensation (AHC) systems.

Performance of the propulsion solutions supplied by the technology group Wärtsilä exceeded the design specification and contributed to the success of the sea trials for the world’s largest semi-submersible crane vessel (SSCV). The ‘Sleipnir’ was built at Sembcorp Marine’s Tuas Boulevard Yard in Singapore for the Dutch offshore contractor Heerema Offshore Services (HOS). It was delivered from the yard in July.

The Astilleros Balenciaga S.A. shipyard in Spain has ordered a complete MAN propulsion package – including MAN 27/38 and 175D engines, a 5-bladed MAN Alpha propeller and both remote-control and MAN HyProp systems – in connection with the construction of a research vessel for the Greenland Institute of Natural Resources.

Instead of running diesel-fueled auxiliary engines, Paglia Orba, Jean Nicoli and Pascal Paoli ferries will use electricity for power at berth. Each of the three vessels is being modified to feature ABB’s power compensation solution Dynacomp, which allows electricity available from the local grid in Marseille to be stepped down to 11KV in order to take care of ship power needs while in port.

Prysmian Group, a world leader in the energy and telecom cable systems industry, takes a step forward in the construction of its new cutting-edge cable-laying vessel. Strictly in accordance with the timeline, basic design phase has been substantially completed, detail engineering is well in progress, steel cutting started in May 2019and keel laying work kicked off last week at Vard’s state-of-the-art shipyards (part of Fincantieri Group).

The InvaSave mobile ballast water treatment system from Damen Green Solutions has demonstrated beyond doubt its capability to help ships meet the incoming D2 standard. All vessels will be required to comply with the standard which came into force on September 8th this year.
