Oil & Gas News

When South Africa entered the year 2023, it did so as a country that was thoroughly dependent on imports to meet its demand for natural gas. This is, to say the least, an uncomfortable place to be for a country that was also in an energy crisis – and that was also trying to implement an energy transition program in which gas would help replace coal, a higher-emissions fuel.

On 8 April production started from the Bauge subsea field in the Norwegian Sea. Bauge is tied back to the recently upgraded Njord platform. Recoverable reserves in Bauge are estimated at 50 million barrels of oil equivalent, mainly oil.

Many oil and gas companies upgrade their operations to reduce their carbon footprint. When adding units for hydrogen, carbon capture and biofuels, they want the same safety and quality as for their oil and gas facilities, plus sealing expertise within energy transition projects.

BiSN, a leading supplier of downhole sealing solutions and technology to the global oil and gas industry, has eclipsed their own record for the largest bismuth plug with a recent deployment in the Gulf of Mexico.

Shell U.K. Ltd (“Shell”), a subsidiary of Shell plc, has completed the restart of operations at the Pierce field in the UK Central North Sea, following a significant upgrade to allow gas to be produced after years of the field producing only oil. Pierce is a joint venture between Shell companies (operator, 92.52%) and Ithaca Energy (UK) Limited (7.48%.)
