Northern Drilling’s West Mira is the first rig in operation to be awarded the DNV GL Battery (Power) class notation. West Mira is an ultra-deepwater semi-submersible designed by Moss Maritime, operating a hybrid power plant using Lithium-ion batteries as spinning reserve in dynamic positioning (DP) operations and to supply power during peak load times.

Equinor and partners ExxonMobil, Idemitsu and Neptune have discovered oil and gas in exploration well Echino South, 35/11-23, by the Fram field in the North Sea. Recoverable resources are estimated at 6-16 million standard cubic meters of oil equivalent, corresponding to 38-100 million barrels of oil equivalent.

A new DNV GL recommended practice (RP) has unlocked new opportunities for the oil and gas sector to deliver more cost-efficient and environmentally friendly subsea processing for improved hydrocarbons recovery.
