Oil & Gas News

Equinor and its partners in the Statfjord area have identified and approved plans to extend production from the field towards 2040. A new business plan will ensure even higher use of resources, extract more value from the field, and allow plans for decommissioning Statfjord A in 2022 to be deferred.

The first phase of the plan to reduce emissions by 2030 means more than 5 million tonnes in annual reductions, representing around 10% of total annual Norwegian greenhouse gas emissions today. Similar as for the EU ETS targets, 2005 is used as a baseline for emissions reductions.

The Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement announced today that for the first time in history, oil production from the Gulf of Mexico exceeded 2 million barrels per day in August 2019. This record average daily production in the Gulf of Mexico followed on the heels of a record-setting 2018 for the entire Outer Continental Shelf (OCS), when a total of more than 640 million barrels were produced in federal waters.

ExxonMobil has made an oil discovery offshore Guyana at the Mako-1 well southeast of the Liza field, marking the 15th discovery on the Stabroek Block. The discovery adds to the previously announced estimated recoverable resource of more than 6 billion oil-equivalent barrels on the Stabroek Block.

Subsea 7 has announced the award of a sizeable contract by Chevron U.S.A Inc. for the subsea installation services at the St. Malo field, located in the Walker Ridge area of the Gulf of Mexico. The St. Malo field is approximately 250 miles south of New Orleans.

Maersk Drilling has secured a three-well contract for the semi-submersible rig Maersk Discoverer with BP for development drilling at the Matapal project offshore Trinidad and Tobago. The contract has an estimated duration of 322 days and is expected to commence in July 2020. The value of the firm contract is approximately USD 78m, including a mobilization fee. The contract contains an additional one-well option.
