The Maine Legislature has passed a bill advancing the state’s offshore wind industry, with Governor Mills expected to now sign the bill into law. The bill calls for Maine to procure 3 GW of offshore wind power generation by 2040, enough to power 900,000 homes and supply half of the state’s total electricity demand.
The Department of the Interior will hold the first-ever offshore wind energy lease sale in the Gulf of Mexico, advancing the Biden-Harris administration’s work to deploy 30 gigawatts (GW) of offshore wind energy by 2030 and reach a carbon-free electricity sector by 2035.
First half 2023 statistics for the offshore wind sector have been released by Clarksons Research. Reviewing the data, Steve Gordon, Managing Director of Clarksons Research commented:
