Although the majority of commercial floating wind turbines are at the early phase of development, Ideol, a leader in floating offshore wind, is at the forefront of bringing commercial floating wind turbines to market.

The Carbon Trust’s Offshore Wind Accelerator (OWA) has published an update of the Floating LiDAR (light detection and ranging) Roadmap, accepted as the international industry framework for technology maturity. The Roadmap, originally published in 2013, has been revised to include updates, extensions and new performance indicators based on industry engagement to ensure the Roadmap continues to be fit for purpose for several user groups in to the future.

The summer of 2018 will be remembered as the time US states took huge steps forward in the offshore wind programs for their states and the US offshore wind industry as a whole. I think it is worth recapping what has happened over the summer as we start an even busier fall.

Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (SGRE) awarded the first two local supply agreements for offshore wind projects in Taiwan in ceremonies in Taipei. Firstly, Swancor will supply resin used in the blades slated for the Formosa 1 Phase 2 offshore wind power plant. Secondly, the newly-formed partnership between CS Wind and Chin Fong will supply 100%-localized towers to meet the localization requirement on wpd’s Yunlin offshore wind power project in 2021.
