New Drilling and Well Control Training Center Opens in North East England

A new center for well control training has opened in North East England to train drilling personnel in the oil and gas industry. It will be the only UK center offering regularly scheduled IWCF-approved Drilling and Well Control training outside of Aberdeen.

AIS Survivex, part of the 3t Energy Group, has invested in a dedicated facility, along with the latest cloud-based drilling simulator technology, at its Newcastle center where delegates can gain and maintain their well control qualifications.

The facility, which has been accredited by the International Well Control Forum (IWCF), is affiliated to AIS Survivex’s Well Control Centre of Excellence in Aberdeen and will deliver scheduled level 3 and level 4 IWCF well control courses.

Well control certificates are mandatory for drilling and associated personnel working in the oil and gas industry and need to be renewed every two years to demonstrate levels of well control competency are being maintained. AIS Survivex’s Newcastle center will be the only IWCF-accredited center in the UK, outside of Aberdeen, to offer regular scheduled well control courses.

Emma Howorth, General Manager England at AIS Survivex, said: “We are delighted to add well control training to the extensive course portfolio at our Newcastle site to give our customers even more choice of where to train.

“AIS Survivex has been running drilling and well control training in Aberdeen for almost two years and we know there is extensive demand from the rest of the UK-market, particularly Northern England. In fact, many drillers from the North East travel to Aberdeen regularly for this training.

“We are acutely focused on our customers’ needs and have transformed our IWCF well control course content to ensure it is highly engaging and tailored to field requirements. We are now running regular weekly courses In Aberdeen so that drillers can access training when it is needed. In Newcastle, there will be a monthly course schedule. This will enable people to plan their training well in advance to fit around their own schedules, as well as removing concerns about missing compliance deadlines. It will also allow delegates to make travel arrangements to get back home to loved ones as quickly as possible once the course has been completed.

“Our new well control training center features the very latest cloud-based simulator technology, digital systems and software to give our delegates an unrivalled training experience and fully prepare them for the field. This investment demonstrates our continued commitment to the oil and gas sector and will help to cement AIS Survivex’s world-class reputation as a key one-stop destination for energy sector training.”
