MarShip Cleans the Air, Fuel and Lubs Onboard Ships

Solutions to common problems don’t always need to be the latest tech. MarShip explains how a “simple filter” can benefit your fleet and the environment.

The Air Cooler is normally removed for cleaning during overhaul adding expense and time at dry dock. Typically, at least 3 men 2 days to remove and replace plus send off for ultrasonic cleaning etc. Typically, £4-6000.

As it’s “in the budget” it is often just accepted as common practice and continues year on year.

Many fleet operators opt for the blanket style filter wrap to protect the turbocharger as this product is widely available and accepted, but due to the nature of the material (essentially, wadding), it can actually restrict the air-flow, creating a “choking effect”. It also has a short life and an environmental impact.

There is a better way …

TPro Filters STOP the need to clean the air cooler. They are a superior, sustainable, and more efficient alternative to filter wrap. Fully washable and pleated for more effective filtration, with tough thermo-bonded synthetic media, they are manufactured in galvanised or stainless steel for a long life. Supplied with a manometer. You will never need to remove an air cooler again.

MarShip has many testimonials, here are just two:

“The air cooler does not need cleaning after 5 years. We estimate a 1% increase in engine efficiency.
We recommend them to anyone serious about reducing costs!.” Rob Cleary S/E  Ocean Gas LPG

“At this stage the intercooler had done 20,629hrs since the air side was last cleaned." C/E   Pelagic Trawler

There are many benefits to TPro, not only will you not have to remove the air cooler for cleaning, it will also stop the air cooler getting blocked and engineers know that when there’s a blockage, the exhaust temperatures rise and so does your fuel consumption.

See our website for further information, including excellent white papers from Wärtsilä and MAN on the subject. Plus Norway Hull Club on the use of “blanket material” for a turbocharger.
