LS Marine Solution to Participate in Construction of Submarine Communication Network

LS Marine Solution announced on the 20th that it will participate in a large-scale project to build a submarine communications network that is being pushed ahead by global tech companies.

LS Marine Solution plans to lay submarine optical communication cables along an approximately 230 km section off the southern coast from 2025 to 2027.

This is part of a submarine communication network expansion project being pushed forward by major global tech companies to respond to the soaring demand for global data traffic due to the spread of AI and cloud computing.

Submarine optical cables are a key part of the digital infrastructure that allows for ultra-high-speed transmission between data centers, AI servers, and cloud bases, and global investment and demand have been rapidly increasing recently.

LS Marine Solution is a cable laying specialist that has been laying submarine optical communication networks between countries for over 30 years, mainly in East Asian waters. In this project, the company plans to secure both stability and quality based on its accumulated experience and high-level marine technology.

Based on its communications network building capabilities, LS Marine Solution is actively expanding its business areas into offshore wind power and power grids. The company recently signed a $15.8 million submarine cable laying contract for a Taiwanese offshore wind power project, and it has also begun building of the world's largest HVDC (high-voltage direct current) laying vessel.

“We will strengthen our capabilities in building submarine networks in line with the growing demand for data infrastructure from the global tech companies leading the AI era,” said Kim Byung-ok, CEO of LS Marine Solution. “We will also solidify our position as a comprehensive submarine infrastructure building company covering communication networks and power grids.”
