MacArtney Opens New Technology Workshop at HQ in Denmark

MacArtney HQ has recently repurposed the old salmon smoking facility (Lakserøgeri) in Hjerting to accommodate a new 2500sqm facility that incorporates new workshop space for Electronics, Fibre Optics, Cabling and Mechanics. Having expanded five-fold on the footprint of the original workshop the new facility now provides workshop technicians with a bright, open and purposeful space.

Functional, bright and open workspaces facilitate collaboration and innovation

The inspiration for the design of the new workshop is very much within the Danish design model with functionality, space and simplicity being paramount. The effective use of space has allowed for the extension of the moulding room, API cable production room, stores department, cable spooling, shipping office and canteen.

Functional bright and open workspaces facilitate collaboration and innovationSkylights flood the workshops with natural light that is diffused on bright days by rows of LED lights, and long work surfaces line the walls and crosshatch seamlessly throughout the open space providing purposeful storage beneath. The wide doorways allow for the free movement of machinery and equipment, and this ease of access has additionally improved the function of the warehouse enabling direct spooling of cables from the storage to transport.

The open vista across the workshop enables co-workers to collaborate freely and fosters a culture of open dialogue and discussion. This is in contrast with the previous facilities that utilised single workspaces. This thoughtful design has added to what Dan Ravn, Workshop Manager, has described as; improved innovation and research into new system solutions.

“The new facilities provide a fantastic workspace for our colleagues and a showroom for our customers; it is really somewhere we can see our ideas and designs come to life.” Indeed, since moving into the new facilities in March 2018, the workshop has delivered a number of ROTVs into the Oil & Gas and Ocean Science markets, completed Defence contracts, and provided Civil Engineering and Renewable Energy system solutions to industry leaders.

With the addition of the Pressure Testing room in May 2019 and room to grow, the HQ Workshop will be fully functioning under one roof and looking forward to future innovation and production to come.
