CSA Joins Industry Experts in “Response Basics” Workshop while Exhibiting at Clean Gulf

CSA Ocean Sciences Inc. (CSA), an international marine environmental consulting and survey company, joins industry experts this week at the Clean Gulf Conference in San Antonio, Texas, contributing to a “Response Basics” Workshop sponsored by Hess Corporation, and exhibiting among more than 100 oil and gas industry service providers.

The objective of the November 7 workshop is to provide incident management personnel with knowledge of critical response operations in areas of Oil Spill Containment and Recovery, Wildlife Rehabilitation, and Well Control. Hess Corporation brings together subject matter experts to deliver presentations on crucial response topics, followed by a table-top exercise. During the workshop, CSA scientist Dr. Jodi Harney, Vice President, Energy, will discuss the use of dispersants as a potential response strategy, the process of requesting authorization for dispersant use, and environmental and operational monitoring requirements associated with employing the tactic.

CSAOceanSciencesDr. Harney commented, “As scientists and operations specialists working on offshore energy projects, we recognize the importance of the US Gulf of Mexico (GOM) from environmental, social, and economic perspectives. Industry operations in the GOM contribute 15% of total US crude oil production; thousands of residents and businesses rely on the GOM’s ecosystem services for tourism, fisheries, and marine resources; and the coastal and marine environments of the GOM are vitally important, from the shoreline to the deep ocean. At CSA, we understand these complex relationships, and our work intersects them.”

Following the workshop, Dr. Harney and Dr. Shane Abeare, CSA’s Environmental Data and Geospatial Services (EDGS) Manager, will participate in the Clean Gulf Exhibition and events, showcasing CSA’s environmental preparedness and oil spill response capabilities, including an environmental Common Operating Picture for centralizing ecological and metocean data to support operations and improve situational awareness for responders, operators, and stakeholders.

Visit CSA at the Clean Gulf Conference in Booth 210 between November 7–9 at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio, Texas.
