Marine-i Online Event: Celtic Sea Floating Offshore Wind

Part funded by the European Regional Development Fund, Marine-i is designed to help the marine tech sector in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly grow through harnessing the full potential of research and innovation. The second phase of the Marine-i program was launched at the end of March 2020 and runs until December 2022.

Prof Lars Johanning of University of Exeter, lead partner for Marine-i, says: “The deployment of Industrial Scale Floating Offshore Wind (FLOW) in the Celtic Sea represents a once in a generation opportunity to drive investment and economic growth in Cornwall & the Isles of Scilly, Wales and the Great South West. Developer interest and activity has already commenced and there needs to be an industrial response to the supply chain opportunity. This has to start now.”

This Zoom based seminar follows on from the “Supply Chain Opportunities” event held in May which updated SMEs on the Celtic Sea FLOW strategy, identified the pipeline of projects and explained the supply chain requirements for FLOW deployments.

The objective of the 6th July event is to stimulate collaborative engagement within the supply chain and research base by:

  • Providing a sense of urgency around the concept of the Celtic Sea cluster
  • Overviewing the Celtic Sea Cluster Regional Business Plan
  • Collaboratively defining the key research, development and innovation questions that are essential to deliver FLOW’s full potential in the Celtic Sea and beyond

Professor Johanning says: “Speakers will include leading players from government, public sector, industry and research. This is a really exciting opportunity for businesses to help shape the future of marine renewable energy in our region.”

Delegates can find out more and book their free place at the link below. (Delegates are asked to register by 2nd July so that workshop preferences can be assigned.)
