Successful Remote Installation in Angola Deepwater FPSO Project

Trelleborg’s marine and infrastructure operation recently completed the successful, remote installation of its latest technology in navigation and piloting; SafePilot Offshore.

Works were part of an upgrade of the navigation and positioning systems and buoy monitoring systems for Total E&P in one of its operated floating production storage and offloading units (FPSO) in Angola.

As part of its plans to create more remote operations for its offshore assets, Total E&P required a strategic partner capable of supporting the installation, data integration, software uploading and commissioning of equipment.

Tommy Guldhammer Mikkelsen, Managing Director at Trelleborg’s marine and infrastructure operation, says: “By adopting our remote operational support and digital technology, Total E&P was able to save on operational costs and lower health and safety risk, due to reduced offshore personnel.

“The successful installation of our SafePilot Offshore solution has resulted in new standardization of equipment on board multiple FPSO’s in the Angola area and Trelleborg has since been awarded contracts for the upgrade of additional Total E&P assets. This project demonstrates the level of reliability and trust between both parties; we are pleased to have assisted Total E&P with this key FPSO project in Angola.”

The SafePilot Offshore solution is a sophisticated navigation and piloting system designed specifically for the oil and gas market. Delivering superior situational awareness and visibility on just one screen, it creates a safer, more efficient operation and optimizes the window of opportunity in critical environments. The high accuracy solution is easy to install and its remote installation functionality removes the need for Trelleborg team members to go into the field.
