Pakistan to Strengthen Natural Gas Transmission Pipeline Network to Meet Growing Gas Demand

Pakistan continues to strengthen its natural gas transmission pipeline network to meet the growing natural gas demand in the country. It accounts for more than 80% of the total upcoming transmission pipelines length additions by 2025, according to GlobalData, a leading data and analytics company.

GlobalData’s report,Global Oil and Gas Pipelines Industry Outlook to 2025 – Capacity and Capital Expenditure Outlook with Details of All Operating and Planned Pipelines, reveals that out of 15 pipelines that are expected to commence operations in Pakistan by 2025, 13 are natural gas pipelines.

globaldata 7Soorya Tejomoortula, Oil and Gas Analyst at GlobalData, comments: “Strong demand for natural gas is prompting Pakistan to focus on the development of the gas pipelines. Pakistan Stream Gas is the longest upcoming gas transmission pipeline in the country with a total length of 1,100 km. It is expected to start operations in 2024.”  

Sawan–Lahore trunk/transmission pipeline is the second highest contributor with a total length of 770 km. Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Ltd would be the operator of this natural gas pipeline, which is also expected to start operations in 2025.  

The third highest contributor in the country is the planned Machike–Tarujabba pipeline with a total length of 427 km. Frontier Oil Co will be the operator of this petroleum products pipeline, which is expected to start operations in 2022.
