Oceanology International 2020 is to be held virtually on December 1-4, bypassing the current doubts over worldwide travel and quarantine restrictions whilst bringing the Oceanology community together in a fresh, innovative way through the Oi Connect events and meetings platform.

The NOAA Office of Ocean Exploration (OER) has released the NOAA OER Deepwater Exploration Mapping Procedures Manual to describe the office’s approach to deepwater ocean exploration acoustic mapping. OER is sharing this manual as a contribution to broader cross-agency efforts to develop standard ocean mapping protocols and to serve as a guide for other interested public and private entities conducting deepwater mapping and exploration.

PJ Valves (PJV), a specialist manufacturer and supplier of valves for the global energy industry, has been awarded two significant FPSO valve contracts for projects in Brazil. The company will manufacture and supply valves packages to both projects in the Santos and Campos basins. 

Three international organizations specializing in technology research, testing, advisory services, and standardization have joined forces to find new ways to accelerate the adoption of carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) technology in emissions-heavy industries.

A letter of intent has been issued to Odfjell Drilling and the Deepsea Aberdeen rig for drilling of 15 wells for the Breidablikk group, for which the partnership recently submitted the plan for development and operation (PDO). Drilling is scheduled to start in the spring of 2022, and the campaign is estimated to last until the autumn of 2024.

Despite current industry challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic, OceanTools, global leaders in subsea engineering, have seen an increase in demand for their products and engineering services, leading to the recent investment in £300,000 of CNC machinery. Since introduction of the new service offering, OceanTools have secured contracts of over £600,000 for the production of specialised subsea pressure housings supplied to Environmental and Oil & Gas clients.

The trade union Lederne has stepped up its strike on the Norwegian continental shelf from Sunday midnight. As a result of the escalation, Equinor has conducted a controlled closure of the fields Gudrun, Gina Krog, Kvitebjørn and Valemon.
