Shell Offshore Inc. (Shell), a subsidiary of Royal Dutch Shell plc, conducted an initial flyover of their assets in the path of Hurricane Ida. During this initial flight, they observed damage to their West Delta-143 (WD-143) offshore facilities. When it is safe to do so, Shell will send personnel offshore to provide a closer inspection of these facilities to understand the full extent of the damage and the degree to which their production in the Gulf of Mexico will likely be impacted.

On Friday 27 August at 21.25, production started from the Troll phase 3 project in the North Sea. The project has a break-even price below 10 dollars and CO₂ emissions of less than 0.1 kg per barrel oil equivalent. The new wells are tied in to the Troll A platform and Troll phase 3 will extend the platform’s life past 2050.  

Aberdeen-based downhole sensing technology specialist, Well-SENSE, has entered into a five-year agreement that provides Halliburton Company exclusive rights to distribute and deploy Well-SENSE’s FiberLine Intervention (FLI) technology in North America’s unconventional wells market.

Strong storms can trigger steep, breaking waves that slam into platform and wind turbines with tremendous force. Scientists at NTNU and SINTEF are studying the behavior of offshore structures subjected to these kinds of waves. Their goal is to increase safety at sea.
