Liftal Hijstechniek has acquired Damen Hoisting. The agreement will be affected on October 1, and the organization will be incorporated into the full-service specialist in lifting and hoisting technology. For Liftal this is a strategic expansion in the Rotterdam region, for Damen a choice to stay with its core business.

When the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) specced their newest research vessel, they looked to Teknicraft and All American Marine for the hull design and Furuno for electronics. Their new 50' semi-displacement catamaran, launched with a full suite of quality Furuno marine electronics, is ready to assist in their research missions in the Olympic Coast National Marine Sanctuary (OCNMS) in Washington State.

The 2020 edition of Dredging in Figures, an annual review of the global open dredging market by the International Association of Dredging Companies (IADC) is now available. Rising shipping costs have impacted numerous sectors, but they have been felt particularly hard among industries that normally utilize heavy lift vessels. This has made some transportations unviable and also resulted in a growing need for ports with greater crane capacity, as ports now need to be able to perform the offloading of increasingly heavy items from non-geared cargo vessels. Without this capability, entire regions risk losing out on newer, more complex construction projects.

VARD, one of the major global designers and shipbuilders of specialized vessels, has been awarded contracts for the design and construction of two Commissioning Service Operations Vessels (CSOVs) with options for two additional vessels, and the sales and conversion of one Platform Supply Vessel to be converted to a Service Operation Vessel (SOV) for Norwind Offshore in Ålesund, Norway. The contracts for the firm three vessels have an indicative total value of NOK 1.4 billion. 

Classification society DNV and the Liberian International Ship & Corporate Registry (LISCR) have awarded an Approval in Principle (AiP) to Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) and Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering CO. (KSOE) for a new 40,000 CBM liquified CO2 carrier design. The handover of the AiP certificate took place during the Gastech trade fair in Dubai.

MacGregor, part of Cargotec, has secured RoRo equipment orders for 8 vessels to be built in Asia. The orders are booked into Cargotec's second (EUR 9 million) and third quarter (EUR 22 million) 2021 order intake with deliveries planned to commence during the second quarter of 2022 and completed during the third quarter of 2023.
