With an aim to radically reduce the marine industry’s carbon footprint and overall emissions, Alfa Laval and Wallenius have announced their intent to form a new 50/50 joint venture. AlfaWall Oceanbird will focus on the development and realization of technology for fully wind-powered vessel propulsion.
 


Damen Marine Components has made a significant contribution to ten ships for the Irish shipping company Arklow Shipping, the latest of which, the Arklow Artist, will be put into service in the foreseeable future. To be able to generate high lifting forces, the ships are equipped with Van der Velden® MASTER rudders and BARKE® high-lift flap rudders.

The technology group Wärtsilä has renewed for the second time its Optimised Maintenance agreement with the Åland Islands based shipping group Rederi Ab Eckerö. Under the terms of this latest 5-year agreement, Wärtsilä will be responsible for maintenance of the main and auxiliary engines in six vessels within the customer’s fleet.

Sperry Marine has received a fleet-wide order for its new SperrySphere Connected ECDIS, with a roll-out to 36 vessels operated by The China Navigation Company (CNCo), a member of the Swire Group. Connected ECDIS is the latest addition to Sperry Marine’s portfolio of smart bridge solutions, connected via the unique SperrySphere platform.

The use of remote methods to deliver training programs for seafarers has increased during the COVID-19 pandemic as a result of restricted or impossible physical attendance at training and examination centers.
